Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), a constituent unit of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), an Institution of Eminence Deemed to be University, held its 36th Awards and Annual Day on Friday, 20 February 2026, at the Dr TMA Pai Auditorium, KMC, Manipal.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi, Chief Operating Officer, Teaching Hospitals, MAHE, Manipal, emphasised that nursing is not merely a profession but a true calling that forms the backbone of healthcare systems. He noted that despite rapid advancements in technology, infrastructure, and clinical protocols, the compassion, vigilance, human touch, and care provided by nurses remain irreplaceable in ensuring quality patient care and positive health outcomes. Highlighting the importance of quality accreditations, he observed that nurses consistently demonstrate high standards of compliance and patient-centred care. He also acknowledged the exemplary role nurses played during the COVID-19 pandemic, marked by empathy, resilience, and commitment beyond expectations. Dr Sudhakar reiterated four essential qualities for nurses' clinical competence, compassionate patient care, professional integrity, and effective communication, and urged them to build meaningful relationships with patients, as personal connection plays a vital role in the healing process. Congratulating all awardees, he encouraged consistency and strong character, appreciated the faculty for nurturing competent professionals and future leaders, and stressed that keeping the patient at the centre of care is fundamental to success in healthcare.
The ceremony recognised meritorious students across various academic programmes for their outstanding achievements. Ms Suhani Chander (2021–2025 BSc Nursing batch) was conferred the Best Outgoing Student award, while Best BSc Nursing Clinical Expertise was awarded to Ms Sharoan Anishka D’Souza. The first rank in the BSc Nursing outgoing batch of 2025 was secured by Ms Neha Sreekumar.
Faculty members were also honoured for their exemplary contributions to teaching, research, and institutional excellence. The Good Teacher Award for the academic year 2024–2025 was presented to Mrs Pratibha Kamath, Assistant Professor, Senior Scale, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing, and Mrs Flavia Sharlet Noronha, Assistant Professor, Department of Mental Health (Psychiatry) Nursing. Dr Elsa Sanatombi Devi received the Most Accomplished Faculty Award for the year 2025. The awards were presented by Dr Anice George, Professor and Former Dean, MCON, Manipal, along with Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Dr Tessy Treesa Jose, Associate Dean and Professor, Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing. Dr Judith A Noronha, Dean, MCON, presented the annual report, highlighting the college’s academic progress, research initiatives, and extracurricular accomplishments over the year. Mr Renon D’Souza, President of the Student Nurses Association (SNA), presented the annual SNA report, reflecting the active engagement and contributions of the student community. The Best Outgoing Student, Ms Suhani Chander, shared her reflections on the pivotal role of MCON and MAHE in shaping her professional journey. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs Ranjani P, Assistant Professor, Senior Scale and Convener of the Annual Day, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty, students, and attendees for their support.
